The trade war with Ankara cost Moscow 1.3-1.5 billion dollars, and Russian consumers lost the opportunity to buy cheap Turkish vegetables. Experts noted that because of the pro-European arms trade, Russia lost from 1.3 to 1.5 billion dollars, as Turkey in response imposed duties on the supply of a number of Russian products.

At the same time, Ankara managed to reorient the export flows, including those countries that have special trade regimes with Russia. Thus, deliveries to Belarus increased by more than seven times, to Kazakhstan - by 12.2 times, to Azerbaijan - by 54.1 times. At the same time in Russia, local producers of tomatoes and cucumbers received a niche in the market of $ 0.5 billion.

Relations between Russia and Turkey were heated after the November 24, 2015 Turkish fighters liquidated the Russian airplane Su-24 that was violating the country's airspace and bombed the border areas in Syria.

The government of the Russian Federation imposed a ban on the import of the following products from Turkey: parts of carcases and by-products of chickens, frozen, parts of carcasses and byproducts of turkeys, frozen, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, cucumbers, carnations, oranges, grapes, apples, pears, apricots, plums, Strawberries, as well as salt.

In mid-2015, relations began to improve, and sanctions began to soften, while tomatoes and cucumbers still remain under the embargo.
