Blood donation: who can be a donor and how

Ministry of Health of Ukraine tells who can be a donor, and how to prepare for blood donation to avoid negative consequences.

Who!.

A donor can be every capable Ukrainian at the age of 18. Weight of the donor should be not less than 50 kg - otherwise the blood sampling can be dangerous for health.

To become a donor, you must undergo a corresponding medical examination in a medical institution before donating blood and you should not have contraindications determined by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Absolute contraindications for blood donation:.

infectious and parasitic diseases: AIDS / HIV, syphilis, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, brucellosis, typhus, tularemia, leprosy, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, echinococcosis, toxoplasmosis, filariasis, rishta, leishmaniasis.

somatic diseases: malignant neoplasms, blood diseases, organic diseases of the central nervous system, complete absence of hearing and / or speech, mental illness, drug addiction, alcoholism, cardiovascular diseases (essential hypertension II-III st. , ischemic heart disease, atherosclerosis, arrhythmia, thrombophlebitis, heart defects).

respiratory diseases (bronchial asthma, bronchiectatic disease, emphysema, obstructive bronchitis, pneumosclerosis).

diseases of the digestive system (achilles gastritis, peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcers);.

diseases of the liver and biliary tract (chronic liver disease, including toxic nature and unclear etiology, calculous cholecystitis, cirrhosis);.

kidney diseases (diffuse and focal kidney lesions, urolithiasis).

diseases of connective tissue, radiation sickness, diseases of the endocrine system, diseases of the ENT organs (ozena, other acute and chronic severe purulent-inflammatory diseases), eye diseases (high myopia - 5 diopters and more, trachoma, complete blindness, residual uveitis).

Skin diseases (psoriasis, erythroderma, eczema, lupus erythematosus, bladder dermatoses, fungal and pustular lesions);.

osteomyelitis, surgical interventions for amputation or resection of the organ and organ and tissue transplantation.

Also, it is temporarily impossible to donate blood after surgery, during pregnancy and lactation, after applying tattoos and piercings, after vaccination, menstruation and drinking alcohol.

How to prepare for blood donation:.

Three days before donation, refuse to take analgesics and aspirin, as well as drugs containing them (these substances worsen blood coagulability).

Try to limit the consumption of fatty, fried and dairy foods on the eve and on the day of donating blood.



Do not come to donate blood if you feel unwell (chills, dizziness, headache, weakness).

Be sure to get enough sleep and eat a light breakfast (sweet tea, dietary cookies, porridge on the water).

Do not drink alcohol 48 hours before donation.

Do not smoke for 2 hours before donation.

Men are recommended not to give blood more often than 5 times a year, women - 4 times a year.
