The European Parliament called for the confiscation of the assets of Russian oligarchs frozen in the EU and the imposition of sanctions against Europeans who are still on the boards of large Russian state-owned companies, reports DW.

This is stated in the resolution on the social and economic consequences for the EU of the Russian war against Ukraine, adopted at a plenary meeting in Brussels on Thursday, May 19.

The resolution notes that the Russian military aggression against Ukraine and the sanctions imposed because of it affect the economic recovery of the EU after the pandemic. At the same time, the MEPs stressed that " The resolution calls for debt relief for Ukraine and asks the European Union to work on a solidarity trust fund for the country.

The resolution says that the existing financial programs of the EU may not be enough to counter the consequences of the war. Among other things, MEPs propose creating a fund for the strategic autonomy of Europe, from which cross-border energy infrastructure and renewable energy should be financed.

The European Parliament also called for the confiscation of the frozen assets of Russian oligarchs, " Recall that now the European Commission is only working on the legal possibilities of such confiscation.

Recall, the US Senate approved the allocation of assistance to Ukraine for 40 billion dollars. Voting has not yet ended, but enough votes have already been collected for the decision to be made.. Only 11 senators voted against aid.

Further, the procedure provides for the signing of the document by US President Joe Biden.
