Researchers at McGill University and the University of Exeter have discovered unusual properties of the exoplanet WASP-12b, which, as it turned out, does not practically reflect sunlight.

An article on this topic was published in the scientific journal Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The planet is the darkest in its galaxy and reflects only 0.6% of the light of its star.

"This level of albedo is extremely low for any celestial body, and it says that this planet is more black than the new asphalt," said a scientist from the McGill University in Montreal Taylor Bell.

According to experts, the planet is located 1400 light years from Earth. At the same time, its dimensions can be twice the size of Jupiter, and the surface temperature can reach 2600 degrees Celsius.
