Ukrainians continue to receive pensions and other social benefits. Liquidators and victims of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant have the right to receive a disability pension. The Main Directorate of the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) in the Transcarpathian region told who can apply for such a pension and what the size of the payment depends on.

How much disability pension can victims of the Chernobyl accident receive?.
The Pension Fund explained that persons for whom a causal connection of disability with the Chernobyl disaster has been established are awarded disability pensions in the amount of compensation for actual damage, based on:.
from the salary received by a person in the exclusion zone in 1986-1990;
or from five times the minimum wage established by law on January 1 of the corresponding year.
The Fund emphasized that from July 1, 2021, changes have been made to the law “On the status and social protection of citizens affected by the Chernobyl disaster”, in particular, in accordance with Article 54 of this law, in all cases, disability pensions resulting from injury or illness as a result of the Chernobyl disaster cannot be lower:.
for I disability group - 6,000 UAH;
for II disability group - 4,800 UAH;
for III disability group - 3,700 UAH.
The pension amounts determined by Article 54, starting from 2022, are indexed annually from March 1 in the manner established by the Cabinet of Ministers, taking into account the increase coefficient, which is determined in accordance with Article 42 of the Law “On Compulsory State Pension Insurance”.

The PFU added that taking into account the resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 185, dated 25. 02. 2025 No. 209 and from 25. 02. 2026 No. 236, the minimum amounts of pensions for disability resulting from injury or illness as a result of the Chernobyl disaster, from March 1, 2026 are:.
for group I - 11048.25 UAH;
for group II - 8838.60 UAH;
for group III and children with disabilities - 6813.08 UAH.
What is the size of the disability pension for the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident?.
The Fund explained that guaranteed minimum pensions for liquidators of the Chernobyl accident, whose disabilities are related to this disaster, are established by Law No. 1584-IX "
This payment is tied to the average salary in Ukraine for the previous year (for 2025 - UAH 20,653.55) and amounts to:.
I disability group -100% of the average salary,.
Group II - 80%,.
Group III - 60%.
The PFU added that these amounts already include all additional payments, allowances, indexations (except for pensions for special merits).
Accordingly, for persons with disabilities who participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, from March 1, 2026, the amount of the minimum pension payment (regardless of the law under which the pension was assigned) cannot be lower:.
I disability group - 20,653.55 UAH;
II disability group - 16,522.84 UAH;
III disability group - 12,392.13 UAH.
