In 2016, four death sentences were enforced in Belarus.

Belarus executes the first death sentence in 2017 against the inhabitant of Homel Sergei Vostrikov, who was found guilty of rapes and murders with particular cruelty.

"Representatives of the company" Human Rights Defenders Against the Death Penalty in Belarus "became aware of the execution of the death sentence against a resident of Homel Vostrikov. His mother received a corresponding report from the Gomel Regional Court, "the statement posted on the website of the unregistered human rights center" Viasna ".

"Spring" refers to the campaign coordinator Andrei Polud, who believes that Vostrikov could be shot between April 13 and 29, since the last letter from SIZO No. 1, where the convict was kept to a higher degree, was dated April 13, and the regional court received a communication On the execution of the 29th.

In addition, on April 5, mothers were allowed to meet with their son in the prison. It was their last meeting.

As reported, in May 2016 the Gomel Regional Court found Vostrikov guilty of rape, violent sexual acts, killing with particular cruelty in order to conceal another crime and theft and sentenced the Gomel to a capital punishment - the death penalty. The hearing was closed for ethical reasons.

According to the investigation, Vostrikov offered his colleagues to take them to work, and he brought the women into the garage, raped and killed. He took the bodies of his victims to the forest and buried.

Supreme Court of Belarus upheld the verdict of the Gomel Regional Court.

According to human rights activists, information is currently being provided about the fate of another convicted person to death - a resident of Mozyr, Cyril Kazatchka, who killed two of his children.

Kazachku death sentence was pronounced in late 2016. He refused to appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court, writing a relevant statement, in connection with which the case was dismissed from the appeal.

Recall, Belarus remains the only country in Europe and the CIS, where the death penalty remains, which, in accordance with the Constitution, is applied as an exceptional measure of punishment for particularly serious crimes. The court's verdict is carried out through execution. The relatives of the suicide bombers, as a rule, are not informed of the execution and do not provide the last interview before the execution. According to the Belarusian legislation, bodies of the executed are not given to relatives for burial, and the place of their burial is not informed.
