Doctors learned to treat organs by removing them from the body

BBC reports that German doctors have learned to heal internal organs by separating them from the patient’s body.

Doctors have created a device with which it is possible to supply blood, or a special solution replacing it, with a liver or heart, as well as produce lung ventilation. Experts have improved the device that is used to transport grafts directly from the donor to the recipient.

Most often a donor organ is transported in an ice container. However, in suspended animation it can be only 5-7 hours. The new device, according to the authors, can maintain normal human body temperature, and with it it is possible to treat organs affected by a tumor.

The device has already passed the test, during which doctors cured lung cancer by first removing it from the patient’s body.
