Scientists have changed the existing drug for general anesthesia so that it does not reduce the pressure and activity of the adrenal glands - these factors threaten the lives of elderly people and patients in serious condition.

For safety, doctors use etomidate (etomidate) with other medicines, controlling blood pressure. However, the effect on the adrenal gland can continue for several days.

Scientists have added a molecule to the chemical structure of etomidate, causing it to split. A similar process is used to create drugs with mild effects.

They plan to test the effect of the new drug (MOC-etomidate) on animals.
