Before drugs from depression start to act, it may take several weeks, which is unacceptable for people with suicidal tendencies. According to new studies, intravenous administration of ketamine, a drug previously used for anesthetic purposes, has a rapid antidepressant effect, according to an online edition for girls and women aged 14-35 who have been diagnosed with Pannochka. Net When it comes to life and death, the importance of timely assistance to depressed patients trying to commit suicide can not be overemphasized. Specialists decided to study the effect of ketamine on patients with severe depression and suicidal tendencies that are not amenable to standard treatment. It turned out that ketamine dramatically reduces the level of suicidal thoughts within 24 hours after a single injection. This change in the patient's mindset persisted when they were given repeated doses over the next two weeks. The results of the work were published in the September issue of the journal Biological Psychiatry.

According to experts, if this finding is confirmed in more extensive studies involving patients with high suicidality, ketamine can be used as one of the options in treating cases in which waiting for the action of conventional antidepressants can endanger human life.

This study was only preliminary, and it involved a small group of patients suffering from depression. Scientists believe that further research is needed to confirm the results. Nevertheless, the findings suggest hope for better treatment and the creation in the near future of new drugs that can save lives of patients with suicidal tendencies.
