An electronic petition calling for the replacement of the monument to Russian Empress Catherine II in Odessa with a monument to gay porn actor Billy Herrington gained 25,000 votes on the president's website.
The petition was placed on May 20, and within the period specified by the rules, it collected the required number of signatures. The author, Oleksiy Matveev, points out that the Empress has harmed Ukrainian statehood and culture, and the statue of Billy will cheer up and signal support for LGBT people in Ukraine. The author also points out that students of Odessa universities after graduation will be able to drink beer near the monument to the actor.
