The Norwegian government has decided to join the sanctions of the European Union and close the borders and ports of the country for Russian trucks and ships. It is reported by NRK.

In particular, through Storskog, the only checkpoint between Norway and the Russian Federation, it will be forbidden to transport all goods included in the EU sanctions list today. Ports will stop accepting Russian ships from May 7.

" This means that we will immediately close Storskog for freight traffic, which will impose a ban on the transport of a number of chemicals,"

She added that the restrictions, however, would not apply to the territory of the Svalbard archipelago, the legal status of which is regulated by the 1920 treaty.

In particular, it recognizes the sovereignty of Norway on the islands, but gives all participating states the right to unhindered activities on them..

" Those who signed it will be treated equally,"

Also, all Russian fishing vessels will be exempted from sanctions.. It is noted that in this way every two out of three ships of the Russian Federation will be able to enter Norwegian ports in the usual mode..

Earlier, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere announced plans to allocate 400 million crowns for weapons to protect Ukraine..
