Lithuania is the first country in the European Union to completely stop gas imports from Russia. Since the beginning of April 2022, the Lithuanian gas transmission system has not imported gas from Russia. This was reported in LRT.

According to the operator Amber Grid, as of April 2, the import of Russian gas to Lithuania from the interconnector with Belarus was zero. All Lithuanian gas needs are met through imports through the LNG terminal in Klaipeda. According to the calculations, in the future this should be enough. If necessary, gas can also be pumped from Latvia, and from May 1 - through an interconnector with Poland.

According to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, if Lithuania was able to stop gas imports from Russia, then the whole of Europe will be able to take this step..

" Many years ago, my country made decisions that now allow us to break energy ties with the aggressor without " If we can, the rest of Europe can too,"

Earlier it was reported that the European Commission does not expect to completely replace Russian gas with American gas, but will gradually increase gas imports from the United States.
