In the European Union consider the introduction of the death penalty by Ankara the most extreme feature. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warned Turkish authorities against the imposition of the death penalty. Such a decision would be a renunciation of the European family and the transition through "the redest of all red lines," the politician said on Monday, May 8. According to him, this would mean the termination of negotiations on accession to the EU. In addition, Junker allowed the possibility of stopping financial payments to Turkey from Brussels. "It's absurd to send money for the training of judges, if these just sit in jail," he said.. Head of the European Commission stressed that European assistance is provided to Turkey for specific reforms.

"Payment of the entire amount of these funds will be approved only when all the conditions are met," he added.. According to Juncker, out of the 4.45 billion euros planned to be provided to Turkey between 2014 and 2020, only 167.3 million euros have been transferred so far. Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised to raise the question of the return of the death penalty and stated that he was ready to hold a referendum on this issue.
