Political observer Yoav Limor writes in the Israel Israel newspaper that the air strike on the Syrian military base T-4 (Tiyas), if it was actually carried out by the IDF, appears to have been a message to Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

The author of the publication does not exclude that the time for conducting this operation was not chosen by chance: if it was carried out by the Israeli Air Force, then Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu probably wanted to re-mark the "red lines" before the meeting in Moscow with Russian President Putin, July 11th. In addition, as noted in the article, the Israeli leadership could thus apply to US President Trump, who meets with Putin on July 16.

The article mentions that the T-4 base was previously subjected to air strikes (in February-April 2018). In February and May, Israel took responsibility for carrying out such operations.

According to the Israeli intelligence, this base is actively used by the Iranian military, including for the delivery and storage of weapons intended for the army of Assad and Lebanese "Hezbollah".

A new blow to the T-4 base could be a message to Bashar Assad, who, with the help of the Russian military, seeks to establish full control over the whole territory of Syria as soon as possible, and is least interested in an open armed confrontation with Israel, Limor says..
