Elections in Russia. Results and prospects

In recent days, the world's media are actively discussing the presidential elections in Russia.

As expected, no sensation occurred. The Russians once again voted massively for Vladimir Putin.

According to the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, 77% of citizens who came to polling stations voted for the acting president, - "Telekanal 24" reports. Until the end of his cadence in 2034, Putin will undividedly rule Russia for 24 years. In second place - the communist millionaire Pavel Grudinin with a colossal difference in votes - only 11%. The third position is for the "eternal challenger", the shocking Vladimir Zhirinovsky. He scored 5% of the vote and has already announced his intention to run in 2024.

For the opposition candidate Ksenia Sobchak, 1.5% of the vote was cast. These are mostly young people, liberal intellectuals and foreign voters. At least, with the task of raising the turnout for elections and creating the appearance of competition, the daughter of Putin's "political father" coped.

The reaction of the world community The foreign leaders of the newly elected president were first congratulated by the Syrian ruler Bashar Assad, the presidents of Bolivia and Venezuela Evo Morales and Nicolas Maduro, leader of the unrecognized Abkhazia Raul Khajimba. In addition, Vladimir Putin received congratulations from the leaders of the CIS countries: Alexander Lukashenko (Belarus), Igor Dodon (Moldova), Ilham Aliyev (Azerbaijan), Nursultan Nazarbayev (Kazakhstan).

Ambiguously perceived Putin's victory in Ukraine and in the West. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, along with congratulations, wished the Russian guarantor success on the road to the modernization of the country and reminded of the need to comply with the Minsk Agreements.

Donald Trump congratulated his Russian counterpart on March 20, contrary to the recommendations of his advisers.

The US State Department stated that the congratulation is part of the diplomatic protocol and the two nuclear powers should be able to conduct a dialogue.

For Ukrainian politics, the election results did not come as a surprise. Analysts agree that the continued presence of Putin in the Kremlin will mean the continuation of the war in the Donbass.
