The Security Council of the United Nations adopted a resolution on September 20 approving the mechanism for the reform of UN peacekeeping operations. The document notes that peacekeepers should act "more responsible, more transparent and more effective".

The resolution also provides for more active participation of the African Union in peacekeeping missions - this will be the "highest efficiency and effectiveness", because the "blue helmets" of the UN work mainly in Africa and the countries of the Middle East.

According to British Prime Minister Therese May, who participated in the Security Council meeting, for effective planning of peacekeeping missions it is necessary "to clearly understand what exactly they should achieve," writes DW.

The budget of UN peacekeeping operations for 2017/2018 is $ 6.8 billion. The resolution adopted by the Security Council provides for partial financing of the operations of the African Union from UN contributions.
