May 8 in Ukraine celebrate the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation. The holiday is celebrated on the day of the surrender of Nazi Germany on May 8, 1945.

The act of surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany was signed on May 7 in Reims, France, but ratified only on May 8 in Berlin.

On this occasion in many cities of Europe and the United States, mass celebrations were held.

Days of Remembrance and Reconciliation, which are held on May 8 and 9, were proclaimed by the UN General Assembly resolution of November 22, 2004, timed to the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine established May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation in honor of all victims of the Second World War in 2015.

Day of memory and reconciliation is the red poppy.
