Fat addiction to fatty foods can cause not only problems with excess weight, but diurnal disorders of the body's biological rhythms, say scientists from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Biological clocks play a very important role in the body, since they regulate the rhythm of activity of hormones and enzymes associated with metabolism. The disorder of biorhythms leads to hormonal disorders, obesity, psychological problems, sleep disorders and even the appearance of tumors, the authors of the study.

Specialists have found a cause-effect relationship between nutritional features and the imbalance of biological clocks. The most important factor affecting biorhythms is light. However, Dr. Oren Froy and his colleagues from the Institute of Biochemistry of the University of Jerusalem demonstrated in experiments with laboratory mice that there is a causal relationship between nutritional features and the imbalance of biological clocks.

The researchers checked whether the biological clock controls the process of isolating adiponectin, a protein secreted by adipose tissue cells and associated with the processes of glucose uptake and lipid metabolism, and how this control is affected by a diet high in fat.

It turned out that a diet high in fat led to a delay in the biological clock. Researchers fed one group of mice with high-fat food, and the second - fat-free food, and then measured fluctuations in the level of metabolism.

In mice with a "fat-free" diet, the oscillations of adiponectin corresponded to a normal daily rhythm. A diet high in fat led to a delay in the biological clock.

Scientists say that a diet high in fat contributes to obesity, not only because of the fat content of food, but also because of a violation of biological rhythms, which, in turn, leads to a metabolic disorder. The study was published in a recent issue of the journal Endocrinology.
