The head coach of the Portuguese national team, Jorge Jesus, explained his decision to leave Cristiano Ronaldo off the bench for the match of the other round of the Nations League against Norway, which ended in a 2:1 victory for the Portuguese.
" I thought of letting him out, perhaps, for the first time, but then the game began to dictate its minds. I believe that this is not the moment to throw him into battle. There are still two matches ahead, but not in order to save him from the physical plane, but also to be ready to play as much as I want. This was my decision,” said Jesus.
The Portuguese coach noted that before the match between Mav and Ronaldo, he was ready to enter the field, but he overcame the match by changing the initial plan.
" It is possible that he will now play with Denmark. All Rivni. I’m just talking to Ronaldo about the rest of the year: “I’ll let you into the game,” otherwise the match won’t be taken into account.
Goncalo Ramos did well, scored a goal, another one was conceded, and I felt that it was not time to change Ramos. The hour has passed, and the moment is no longer for the exit of Cristiano, but for the exit of another graver, to guarantee balance and optimize the result."
For Ronaldo, this match became the first official match of the Portuguese national team in 18 years, for which the applicant had, but without taking away the playing hour. The rise was similarly scuttled at Euro 2008.
