The fate of the goalkeeper of Granada and the national team of Algeria, Luca Zidane, at the upcoming World Championship was under serious threat. The 27-year-old son of the legendary French footballer Zinedine Zidane suffered motor injuries during the week-long match in another Spanish division against Almeria.
The incident was the result of Luka’s violent confrontation with the opponent’s striker Talis. The goalkeeper's kidney had to be urgently replaced due to suspicion of brain striasis, but further medical treatment revealed significantly serious consequences.
“Medical tests showed that the goalkeeper also suffered a fracture of the chin and chin. Gravets, after consultation with the medical staff of the club, in the coming years it will be determined what course of treatment will be followed in connection with his injury,” reads Granada’s official statement.
It turns out that Zidan will definitely miss the rest of the club season. As doctors praise the decision about the need for surgical intervention, the term for this update will significantly increase, making it difficult to travel to the World Cup.
The loss of the main goalkeeper will be a serious blow for the Algerian team.
The team can begin its campaign at the World Championship on the 16th of June in Kansas City with a match against the world champions - the national team of Argentina.
We would like to remind you that Luca Zidane, having previously represented the national and youth teams of France, recently decided to stand up for the historical fatherhood of his grandparents - Algeria. He quickly became the key player of the new team: last year the goalkeeper started five matches at the African Cup of Nations, and last month he scored 90 goals in a friendly match against Uruguay (0:0).
