Ukraine will soon release the film \? ”, dedicated to the events that took place at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant after the start of the Russian invasion. As the creators of the picture note, this year on April 26 (the anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, which happened in 1986 - ed.. ) is not only a reason to remember the past, but also a reason to raise the issue of nuclear safety in Ukraine and around the world.

Women in Nuclear (WiN) Ukraine invited experts and eyewitnesses to discuss this topic. During such conversations, the idea arose to create a documentary film..

From February 24 to March 31, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was captured by Russian troops. The station personnel were held hostage, the National Guard servicemen were captured, enemy military and equipment were located on the territory of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, shelling was carried out, ammunition exploded, for some time, as a result of hostilities, the power plant did not receive external power, necessary for the safe storage of spent fuel, on the territory. For the first time since 1986, the Exclusion Zone was put on emergency alert, and the whole world, breathtaking, followed the course of events..

“To understand what the scale of a new accident could be (and this accident could have been caused by anything: shells, power cuts, psychological stress of personnel) - compare: in 1986, one reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded. There were 200 tons of fuel. And the spent nuclear fuel storage facility now contains 2,500 tons of fuel..

And the accident could have developed according to the scenario of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, which led to the contamination of large areas of Japan with radionuclides, - says Yuriy Shibetsky, Ph.D.. “Those who seize dangerous nuclear facilities and endanger the entire European community are worthy of the Nuremberg Nuclear Tribunal.”.

Creators of What If It Happened Again? » published a teaser of the picture, and the tape itself will be released in the near future.
