During a weekly briefing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian embassy in Bulgaria sent a note of protest to the country's Foreign Ministry because of the desecration of the monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia.

She also stressed that the note was sent with the request for a thorough investigation of the incident, bringing to justice the perpetrators and taking the necessary measures to bring the memorial in order.

Zakharova added that Moscow expects Sofia will no longer tolerate vandalism against monuments of the general history of Russia and Bulgaria.

As it became known, unknown intruders desecrated the monument of the Soviet Army in Sofia on the night of June 29-30. Earlier in March, Russia sent a note of protest to Bulgaria in connection with the desecration of the monument "Alyosha".
