Official Washington can join negotiations on Donbass in the Norman format, and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will act as a lawyer of Ukraine.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin, who is now in the US, TSN reports..
According to him, Tillerson was well informed about Moscow's aggression against Ukraine.
In addition, he also discussed various options for solving the situation.
At the same time, Klimkin stressed that the United States is likely to join Ukraine, Germany and France in negotiations with Russia, but stressed that it is not the negotiation format that matters, but their effectiveness.
Klimkin will remain in Washington until the evening of May 10, when Tillerson will have a meeting with Russian Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding Ukraine and Syria. The Ukrainian side was not invited to the talks, but the US promised to take the side of Kiev.
"He now understands not just the general logic of our common position, but also understands the details. Now it's up to him to put pressure on Lavrov, I very much hope that he will succeed in this. We talked in great detail over the phone, perhaps it is worth to meet on the basis of recent contacts with the Russian side, "said Klimkin.
As reported by the "Observer", earlier journalist Vitaly Portnikov said that Germany and France are now interested in preserving the "Norman" format more than Ukraine and Russia.
