The occupation by the occupation authorities of Crimea of ??sand from the dam of the Nizhne-Churbash tailing dump, where toxic waste was stored, threatens the health of people and the ecology of the Black Sea.

This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry for Temporary Occupied Territories and internally displaced persons).

"Ukraine tracks the consequences of large-scale sand mining directly from the Nizhne-Churbashsky tailings dam, where the poisonous waste of the Kamysh-Burun iron ore plant was stored," the message reads.

The discharge of the pulp into the tailing pond was stopped in 1994, together with the plant's work, but at the moment poisonous wastes are used for the construction of the Kerch bridge and civil construction.

The selection of sand from the toxic tailing pond near Kerch is a direct violation of the environmental legislation by the occupation authorities.

Carrying out such works creates an emergency situation and threatens the health of people and the ecology of the Black Sea.

"The area of ??the site where the extraction takes place is 64 288 square meters. m (length - 860 m, width - 75 m). In the process of extraction and delivery, toxic sand inevitably enters the air, and atmospheric precipitation flushes poison through a destroyed dam in the Black Sea water area, "the press service said..

It is noted that the amount of arsenic in the tail exceeds the maximum permissible concentration 500 times.
