Europe can no longer "fully depend" on the United States and Britain after the "breccinet" and the election of Donald Trump as president, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

According to Merkel, she wants friendly relations with both countries, as well as with Russia, but, in her opinion, Europe must now fight for its future.

"The times when we could completely rely on others passed. I have felt this in the past few days, so I can only say that we Europeans must take their own destiny into their own hands. Naturally, while maintaining friendly relations with the United States, with Britain, maintaining good-neighborly relations, when it turns out, Russia and other countries. However, we must understand that we, as Europeans, must fight for their own future, "the German Chancellor said on Sunday, May 28, in Munich.

The Chancellor made this statement after the G-7 summit failed to reach a consensus on the agreement on combating climate change, concluded in 2015 in Paris. Merkel called these talks very difficult.

Angela Merkel also said that now the priority for Berlin is the relationship with the new French President Emmanuel Macron.

In Munich, Merkel took part in the pre-election event in the "beer tent".

According to opinion polls in Germany, Merkel will most likely be re-elected for a fourth term following the September general elections.
