The Kharkov regional center of culture and art opens an exhibition of towels and wedding paraphernalia. This was reported in the press service of the Regional State Administration.

The exposition "Slobozhanska wedding" will work from April 18 to May 16, 2017.

"Traditionally, in Slobozhanshchina, weddings were celebrated in the autumn, after the end of field work until the middle of October - the Orthodox holiday of the Intercession (October 14). An important component of the wedding are attributes - things or objects that acquire symbolic meaning in the rite. Traditionally, more than 20 embroidered towels were used at the wedding. The main are five: under the loaf, two - for the icons, for bandaging the hands of young and under the feet during the wedding, "- said the organizers.

According to them, the exposition represents the versatility of the attributes used in the wedding ritual of the Kharkov region: over 50 ruffles made in various techniques of traditional embroidery (hem, cross, satin, white and so on), a unique authentic bride dress, dated the beginning of the XIX Centuries, obletovye dolls-motanki, karavai, kalachi.
