The situation with water supply for the population and enterprises of the Crimea at present remains difficult, especially in the east of the peninsula. This was announced on Tuesday, June 27, by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolay Patrushev during the meeting devoted to the development of shipbuilding and the use of water resources.

"In the sphere of providing the population and economy of the Crimean peninsula with water resources, the situation is rather complicated. Total water withdrawal in 2016. Decreased by 5 times compared with 2014, "- quotes Kryminform head of the Security Council.

According to Patrushev, all the blame for the two main factors - the natural and the actions of post-Maidan Kiev authorities, overlapping the North-Crimean channel three years ago, according to which up to 85% of fresh water came to the region. Now, according to his information, the problem of water supply of the southern coast, central and northern parts of the Crimea.

"Continue to disturb the existing problems of providing fresh water to the eastern part of the peninsula. Its feeding in some places is carried out in a limited way, "Patrushev noted and added that the lack of water resources is holding back the socio-economic development of the Crimea. According to the head of the Security Council, the areas of irrigated lands fell 92%, in a difficult situation were fisheries and industrial enterprises.

The situation with water supply for Crimeans is also affected by outdated equipment and unauthorized drilling of wells. The official urged to optimize water consumption and use alternative options. As an example, Patrushev cited the desalination of sea water. In addition, he demanded to protect water objects from unauthorized penetration.

"Groundwater is an alternative source of water supply in the Crimea. However, the lack of reliable information about the state of stocks creates a threat of making unconvinced decisions on their extraction. In addition, the existing deficit leads to massive unauthorized drilling of wells. This depletes the water resources, reduces the water level in the wells and its quality, "- said Patrushev.

Currently, the peninsula is used equipment and wastewater treatment plants of the Soviet era, and this creates the preconditions for the deterioration of the sanitary and epidemiological situation, the Security Council Secretary. "A significant part of hydraulic structures has been in operation for more than 30 years, which creates the risks of accidents," concluded Patrushev.

In turn, the need to strengthen the safety of water in the Crimea in order to avoid diversions was made at the meeting and the presidential envoy to the Southern Federal District Vladimir Ustinov. He said that now on the peninsula there are about 1.3 thousand sources of centralized water supply.

"According to available data, many of them need reconstruction, modernization of wastewater treatment facilities. The proportion of the population provided with benign drinking water ... is lower than in other subjects of the Russian Federation and the Southern Federal District, "stated Ustinov.

The plenipotentiary reported that in the federal target program for the development of the Crimea until 2020. Significant financial injections are planned for solving the water supply problem.

"It is necessary to work out effective proposals so that without dispersing budget funds to solve the tasks set," - quoted RIA Novosti news agency Ustinov.

Recall, Nezalezhnaya blocked the water supply of Crimea on the North-Crimean channel almost immediately after the entry of the peninsula into Russia - in the spring of 2014. In late April this year in the Kherson region was commissioned a capital concrete dam, completely blocking the flow to the territory of the Crimea water from the Dnieper.
