France refused to extradite Serbia to the former field commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and ex-Prime Minister of the partially recognized state Ramush Haradinaj, arrested at the request of Belgrade by the French police in early January 2017. The corresponding decision was taken by the court of the city of Colmar, reported on Thursday, April 27, the newspaper Le Monde.

It should be noted that the prisoner remained in the remand prison for a short time. He was released on January 12, provided he did not leave the territory of the Fifth Republic. And today the court even rejected the Serbian request.

Commenting on the incident, Haradinaj said that Belgrade's accusations against him are "completely politicized, and what the French law enforcement agencies are doing is contrary to the rules of law," the newspaper writes.. RU. However, he will not be able to leave France after only five days, for which the local prosecutor's office must determine whether she will appeal the court's decision today.

The Albanian Haradinaj was born in a peasant, Catholic, large family (9 children) under Decani in Kosovo, when it was still part of Yugoslavia. Since 1987, he served in the army. Then, on a forged passport, the future leader of Kosovo separatists emigrated to Switzerland, where he worked for 8 years first as a builder, then as a security guard and bouncer in a nightclub.

By the time when the winter of 1998. The civil war swept to Kosovo, Haradinaj not only moved to Albania, but managed to retrain in one of the camps of the so-called "Kosovo Liberation Army," whose leadership sought secession from Yugoslavia. Initially, Haradinaj was involved in the transfer of arms through Albania to Kosovo, and then appeared in his native village of Glojana.

When the settlement was surrounded and tried to take the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Yugoslavia, many close and familiar faces of the future prime minister perished in battle. He himself was also wounded in the thigh. Nevertheless, the village could not be occupied by law enforcers.

Later, Haradinaj participated in the planning and conduct of guerrilla operations against the Yugoslav military and police as commander of the KLA compound in the western sector of Kosovo. Already after the NATO bombings on Yugoslavia, being in the status of the deputy commander of the self-defense forces of the region, he once joined because of a rifle concealed in a car, into a squabble with Russian peacekeepers at the checkpoint. As a result of the "dialogue", the current French prisoner received injuries of moderate severity, writes the newspaper. RU.

Subsequently, Haradinaj created the "Alliance for the Future of Kosovo" party, and in 2004. Parliament of the self-proclaimed country approved his candidacy for the post of prime minister, which he occupied only 100 days. At this time, the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia charged and politician, resigning as prime minister, voluntarily came to The Hague.

He and three other accomplices were accused of massacres of Serbs, Gypsies and loyal Albanians to Belgrade during the fighting in Kosovo. In total, Haradinaj was charged with 17 counts related to crimes against humanity, as well as 20 counts of violation of customs and laws of war. However, in April 2008. The Hague Tribunal fully acquitted him and set him free. But in 2011 he put forward new charges, including kidnapping dozens of people, sending them to a concentration camp in Yablanitsa, torture and sexual violence. And again Haradinaj was acquitted.

After the Serbian authorities accused him in absentia of war crimes and declared an international wanted list, Haradina first in 2015.

- detained in Slovenia, but released, and then in France. And here the story repeats itself. The Prime Minister and the elected President of Serbia, Alexander Vucic, after the announcement of the current verdict of the court, accused France and other Western countries of using double standards. The Serbian leader said that Belgrade will call its ambassador in Paris for consultations and send a sharp diplomatic note of protest to the authorities of the Fifth Republic.
