First. Trump did not flee the summit hours after it began, as he did last year.. Met with Zelensky - talked with Zelensky together with Macron, and then held a separate meeting, although American representatives said two days ago that a separate meeting was not planned.

Second. The summit's joint declaration on geopolitical issues, released late Wednesday in Europe, begins with a statement of support for Ukraine.. Last year, due to Trump's opposition, nothing like this happened. Here is the beginning of the declaration:.

Honestly, it was difficult to imagine that Trump would ever agree to sign such a declaration.

Of course, it is not words that matter, but deeds..

There are only two ways to deprive the evil empire of the opportunity to continue the war, two levers of influence on Putin. The first is to inflict painful military defeats on him, including attacks on his military industry. The second is to deprive it of economic and financial resources, to stop the work of its entire economy.

In order to act effectively in both of these directions, military assistance to Ukraine must be increased, and the United States must resume such assistance. Effectively protecting Ukraine from Russian missile attacks is one of the most important components of inflicting military defeats on Putin. Therefore, the supply of new air defense systems and air defense missiles to Ukraine is very important. And I would really like the words of the declaration to turn into deeds.

In order to stop the Russian economy, total joint effective sanctions of the G7 and EU countries are needed against the Russian oil and gas sector and the entire Russian financial system. All tankers of the Russian shadow fleet should be outlawed, detained and arrested. Russia should be deprived of the opportunity to export oil, liquefied gas and petroleum products. Ukraine itself is taking care that these opportunities are constantly decreasing.. In order for Russia, in principle, to not be able to receive money for its oil, petroleum products and liquefied gas, the G7 countries and the EU should help Ukraine, as they promised in the declaration.

And the 47th president has an excellent opportunity to show that he signed the joint declaration for a reason. The so-called general license, which stops sanctions against Russian oil trade, will expire on Wednesday.. If there is no new general license, the sanctions will apply again.

But in order to implement the provisions of the declaration, it is necessary to introduce total sanctions against the entire Russian shadow fleet, against the entire Russian banking system.

We need to resume military aid to Ukraine.

To do both, based on the law, Trump only needs to give the go-ahead to Republican Senate Majority Leader Thune to put before the Senate a bill to support Ukraine, already passed by the House of Representatives, and providing for the renewal of aid to Ukraine, the renewal of the Lend-Lease law, and a loan for the purchase of American weapons for $8 billion.

If Trump does this, he will bring the end of the war closer. Things matter. Words have only symbolic meaning.

* A memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran was announced to be signed on Friday.. According to Vice President Vance, who spoke with ABC reporters, this memo is only one and a half pages long.. Its text, however, is carefully hidden by the White House. Why?

This is very unusual for the USA. When an administration intends to sign any international treaty or agreement or memorandum, as in this case, this document is always published before its signing, so that it is known what exactly is being signed, what obligations the current administration undertakes on behalf of the United States, what obligations the country with which this document is signed, in turn, assumes.

Judging by all the leaks from the White House, which, citing their sources, are published by many American media, the text of the memorandum is not published in order to delay the wave of indignation over this very text until it is signed.

From what was leaked to the press, it follows that the memorandum will become a de facto recognition by the United States of its strategic defeat in the war.

According to the memorandum, a ceasefire will be in effect for 60 days on all fronts, including the front between Israel and Hezbollah, Iran will unblock the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days, and the United States will lift the blockade on Iranian ports. Iran will commit to never producing or acquiring nuclear weapons.

Let us note once again that the Strait of Hormuz was completely open to free navigation until February 28, before the start of the war between the United States and Israel with Iran..

And Iran has already committed to never producing or acquiring nuclear weapons under the JCPOA agreement, which was concluded with it in 2015 and which Trump tore up in 2018.

According to various sources cited by the media, the United States will undertake to lift sanctions against Iran as Iran fulfills its obligations. Sanctions against Iranian oil will be lifted immediately following the signing of the memorandum. It remains unclear whether the obligations under the memorandum or future obligations under the as-yet-unreached nuclear agreement and Iran's stockpiles of enriched uranium remain unclear.. It is also reported that, according to the memorandum, a $300 billion fund will be created for the development of Iran.. In fact, this means a thinly veiled payment of reparations to Iran. At the same time, part of the fund (it remains unclear exactly which one) will be filled by the Gulf countries. A number of media outlets have stated that this fund will be filled with private rather than government investments.. We'll see when the memorandum is published.

Thus, with the memorandum that will be signed on Friday, the United States admits that it did not achieve any of the goals set in the war, which means strategic defeat. Trump formulated a number of goals in his video message on the night of February 28, when the war began:.

– Elimination of the Iranian nuclear program. Iran both owned and still owns 11 tons of enriched uranium, including 500 kg of uranium enriched to 60%, which is enough to create nuclear weapons. Most likely, Iran also retained the infrastructure for uranium enrichment.

– Elimination of the Iranian missile program. According to a US intelligence report leaked to the media, Iran retains 70% of its ballistic missile arsenal, at least 50% of its launchers, and the ability to produce both..

– Inability for Iran to sponsor its proxy forces in the Middle East. Iran retains full influence over Hezbollah and the Yemeni Houthis, acting on direct orders from Tehran. It retains full capabilities to supply its proxy armies with weapons, including ballistic missiles and drones.

– Regime change in Iran. The regime remained in power. Moreover, the role of the IRGC, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has significantly increased in it, which means that the regime has become tougher than it was before the start of the war.

In addition to this, Iran has shown that it has a weapon for which the United States has no antidote - the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which plunges the United States into an economic crisis and the whole world into an energy and economic crisis.. And according to American intelligence data reported by CNN, Iran can resume this blockade at any time, and the United States has no real ways to counter control of the strait using drones and mines.

When a country starts a war and cannot achieve a single goal set in the war, this is a strategic defeat.

The 47th president tried on Wednesday in Evian to “sell” his “victory” over Iran to the whole world. He insisted that the JCPOA agreement led to the creation of nuclear weapons by Iran, and his “deal” excludes the creation of nuclear weapons by Iran (we talked about how this is not true above). He assured that if he had not started the war, Iran would have had a nuclear bomb in two weeks, and Israel would no longer exist (let me remind you that a year ago Trump insisted that he had already destroyed the Iranian nuclear program, and when his director of military intelligence did not agree with him, Trump fired him). He stated that he had no goal of changing the regime in Iran and that Iran now has a very rational regime that he, Trump, can deal with.

In the United States, the memorandum that is planned to be signed and what Trump and Vance are saying has caused sharp criticism from both liberal and conservative and even completely right-wing media.

The conservative Wall Street Journal titled an article on the memo's contents " And the far-right National Review wrote that when Trump says what he says about the memo and what he says about Iran, he thinks we're all imbeciles.. And I even put it in the title.
