Members of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) initiated the termination of Russia's right to representation in the Commission, said the representative of Ukraine, deputy head of the Constitutional Court Serhiy Golovaty.

The decision was made the day before, now the President of the VC Claire Bazi-Malaury must apply to the Committee of Ministers of the CE. The Committee is expected to make a decision on 10 March.

The Venice Commission is an advisory body of the Council of Europe on constitutional law, giving conclusions on the compliance of draft laws with European standards and values..

Russia is still a member of the Council of Europe. Due to the attack on Ukraine, Russia's membership was stopped in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

As a member of the Council of Europe and a party to relevant conventions, the Russian Federation is obliged to comply with the requirements of the European Convention on Human Rights and comply with the decisions of the ECtHR.
