The overwhelming majority of new citizens of the Russian Federation - 98% - were immigrants from the former republics of the USSR, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reports.. The largest number of applications came to the migration service from citizens of Ukraine (62% of applications, the overwhelming majority - residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions).

The second and third places are taken by Tajikistan (10%) and Kazakhstan (7%), respectively.

The total number of new citizens who received a Russian passport in 2020 is 656 thousand people. Of these, 640 thousand are residents of countries that were part of the USSR as union republics.
