The court has already initiated the suspension of the inauguration of Puchdemon, but he can still run for this post if he returns to Catalonia and submits his candidacy in absentia. The government of Marianno Rahoy also insists that electing the autonomy for Carles Puigdemona as the head of the government can only lead to one result:

avoidance of responsibility for its anti-government actions and an attempt to undermine Spain's state security.

The Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rahoy, claims that he will do his best to prevent Puigdemon from returning, but even if he tries to do so, he will be immediately arrested and handed over to the judiciary upon arrival to the Spanish land.
