On the morning of September 1, smog covered Kyiv and air quality deteriorated significantly. Thus, according to the monitoring of the Air Quality Index, in some places in the northern and western suburbs of the city, the level of pollution is characterized as “unhealthy”.

The cause of air pollution in the city is peatland fires northwest of Kyiv and a change in wind towards the capital.

In particular, strong fires on peatlands were recorded the night before in the village of Mikhailovka-Rubezhovka near Bucha, and in the village of Sosnovka, Vyshgorodsky District, as well as in the Obukhovsky District. Rescuers work at the scene of fires.

The Kyiv regional administration assures that the situation is under control, and fires at the sites of peat deposits are a seasonal phenomenon..

With air pollution due to burning peat, breathing discomfort occurs even in healthy people, and children and people with cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases are strictly forbidden to be on the street.

What to do during the smog on the street:.

If possible, limit or not be on the street at all.

Close the windows in the rooms and refuse to ventilate.

If you need to go outside, wear goggles and a face mask.

Moisturize at least once a day.

Avoid excessive physical activity during smog conditions.

Drink plenty of clean water.

Take a shower after going outside.

The first signs of the negative impact of smog may be throat irritation, irritation of the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes, and shortness of breath.. Both children and adults may show signs of etching. Doctors advise rinsing the nose and throat with saline solution, and in case of deterioration of health, consult a doctor.
