The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a successful counterattack in the southern operational zone. In addition to the destroyed personnel and military equipment of the enemy, this operation has another important significance, according to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

A small counterattack by the Ukrainian forces forced the Russian troops from the offensive to go on the defensive.. Probably, in this way the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to disrupt the efforts of the Russian Federation to create strong defensive positions along the Southern Axis. It is unlikely that operations near the borders of the Kherson and Nikolaev regions will lead to the reconquest of a significant territory in the near future. However, the command of the Russian army will have to send reinforcements to these areas, most of which are held by non-standard units.. Most likely, such actions will violate Russian operational plans..

The General Staff reports that Russian troops took up defensive positions in the village of Kostromka, 10 km from the border of the Kherson region. While the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a successful counteroffensive south of the village of Davydov Brid and east of the Ingulets River.

It is also important that Ukrainian counterattacks also affect the situation in the territories of Kherson temporarily controlled by Russia.. Due to the unstable situation in the region, the efforts of the Russian Federation to establish administrative control over the occupied south of Ukraine will slow down.

The holding of a pseudo-referendum in the southern regions of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia, the occupying authorities have already postponed to next year.
