Dutch scientists from the Medical Center of the University of Maastricht, with the support of colleagues from the Eindhoven University of Technology, developed a system that provides vascular restoration at the micro level. Only a few surgeons have the technique of connecting vessels, the diameter of which is 0.3-0.8 mm.

The creators of MUSA - the first robotic system designed exclusively for performing supermicrosurgical operations successfully completed the task..

20 women who were diagnosed with lymphedema caused by breast cancer, agreed to participate in the operation using a robot surgeon. Only surgery can help to cope with this disease, which will help restore normal blood circulation and lymph outflow in the affected organ. The effectiveness of the operation in this case depended solely on the accuracy and sleight of hand of the microsurgeon.

The creators of the robot surgeon made sure that the new system acted quickly and clearly, eliminating unnecessary movements. The advantage of using the robot during the operation is that the state is not known to the technician: “uncomfortable position” and “flowing of hands and fingers”.

After the operation by a robot surgeon, scientists several times analyzed the quality of the vessels connected to them in women (after 1 and 3 months). The result showed excellent results, in no way inferior to the best specialists in performing the operation.. The only difference from a person is that the robot spent almost 2 hours to perform this operation, while a person performs the same procedure in 1 hour 21 minutes, which is not a significant drawback.
