The European Parliament voted to adopt the WiFi4EU program, which will create a network of free Wi-Fi points throughout the European Union.

For these purposes in 2017-2019 it is planned to allocate 120 million euros, the report says on the website of the European Commission.

Wireless Internet terminals should appear in 6-8 thousand. settlements, including libraries, hospitals, parks, museums, schools, as well as public transport.

Municipalities and government agencies will be able to apply online for funding under this program. At the same time, they must ensure the operation of Wi-Fi terminals for at least three years.

According to the EU Commissioner for the Digital Economy Maria Gabriel, the authorities of cities and villages will determine in which places it is necessary to install terminals in the first place. The purpose of the program - to cover the Internet primarily sparsely populated regions.

In this case, the use of free Internet for citizens will be as simple as possible, said Gabriel. It will be enough to register only once and then use the WiFi4EU points throughout the EU.

According to plans, the wireless Internet terminals within the program will start operating in 2018.
