According to rumors, Apple is developing a new camera for the iPhone 8, which will create 3D-photos and identify users by persons. But, as it turned out, this is not the only innovative feature in the upcoming smartphone.
Another interesting innovation in the iPhone 8 was revealed thanks to iOS 11. The discovery was made by experts who studied the WWDC system Core ML, which is capable of self-learning with the help of artificial intelligence, due to which it can recognize faces in photos "six times faster than competitors". Thanks to the new framework iPhone 8 will be able to recognize the objects that are in front of the camera smartphone.
Now Apple devices do not know the difference between a hammer, a smartphone and a hotdog. But thanks to Core ML they can easily cope with this task. Programmer Chris Greening managed to "teach" the iPhone to recognize things that fall under the camera's sight, in seconds.
The developer connected the iPhone to the open machine learning platform of Apple, which runs on the Vision Kit technology. Greening described the step-by-step process of creating code in his blog.
On the video you can see that in most cases the gadget correctly recognizes objects: he recognized the screwdriver bottle and ruler. Characteristically, the program recognizes the iPhone as an Apple device, but it is 90% sure that this is an iPod. Among other proposed options: telephone, modem and speaker. For a tool that performs processing on a smartphone without sending data to the server, this is an excellent result.
Similar services were demonstrated many years ago. But a really working software that could really be used in everyday life, just walking down the street, until there was. Perhaps iPhone 8 will be the first.
