Sharp TVs have been sold in the US since the 1970s, until the Japanese manufacturer faced financial difficulties of such magnitude that it had to sell the rights to use the brand Sharp in this market of the Chinese company Hisense. We managed to get a little out of this - $ 27.8 million, especially considering that the control over Sharp was soon acquired by the Taiwanese company Foxconn, which cost her $ 3.5 billion.
The new owner set out to regain the rights to the trademark. As it became known, Sharp filed a lawsuit accusing Hisense of low quality products and unfair advertising.
According to the plaintiff, the actions of the Chinese company "destroy" the trademark.
In turn, Hisense "categorically rejects" the charges and is ready to present arguments in court. According to the Chinese manufacturer, he strictly adheres to the terms of the license agreement and intends to continue "to produce and sell high-quality TVs under the brand Sharp".
Note that the right to use the trademark went to the Chinese, together with the factory Sharp, located in Mexico. The license agreement is concluded for five years.
