Shares of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) experienced the strongest decline in 12 years after the company unveiled revenues below expectations of Wall Street.

On Tuesday, May 2, AMD securities fell by almost 25%, according to data from the Nasdaq stock exchange, on which the company's shares are placed. The Financial Times notes that the quotes of the American chip maker have not fallen so much since 2005. Then their cost for one day sank by 26.2%.

In the last year, AMD shares rose in price by 295% due to the company's return to growing revenue.

The threefold exchange lift helped AMD attract a large number of new investors seeking maximum profit in the shortest time possible.

In the first quarter of 2017, AMD revenue increased by 19% compared to the same period of 2016, amounting to $ 984 million. Analysts had expected sales of $ 984.5 million.

AMD's losses fell from $ 108 million to $ 73 million, or 8 cents per share, while market experts predicted a cash loss of 7 cents per one security.
