A positive reaction was observed in almost 400 participants in the study.

The so-called mosaic vaccine consists of proteins of different strains of the virus, and therefore can serve as a universal protection. Scientists tested different versions of the vaccine on healthy participants from 18 to 50 years old, not infected with HIV and living in the US, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa and Thailand.

Each volunteer underwent a course of vaccination for 48 weeks.

All types of vaccines have shown themselves to be effective and safe for patients. And in a parallel study, scientists vaccinated rhesus monkeys against a virus similar to HIV that affects monkeys. The vaccine tested protected more than two-thirds of the experimental animals.

Scientists already in the near future plan to test the vaccine on 2600 African women.
