The study showed that playing sports in old age does not allow the immune system to reduce its activity.

It is well known that with age, the immunity of a person weakens, that's why in old age we are exposed to much more different diseases than in youth. However, scientists from the Royal College of London and the University of Birmingham have proven that regular physical activity does not allow the human immune system to reduce activity.

In particular, the study showed that middle-aged and elderly cyclists have a number of physiological characteristics that are more characteristic of young people-at least compared to older peers who do not engage in sports.

In the sphere of attention of scientists were 84 men and 41 women who regularly rode a bicycle. Their age was from 55 to 79 years. The researchers decided to find out how the aging processes affect the human body and whether there are certain physiological markers that can be used to determine the present age.



The men entering the study were able to cover a distance of 100 km in less than 6.5 hours, and women overcame 60 km in 5.5 hours or faster. The sphere of attention of scientists did not include smokers, alcohol lovers, victims of hypertension or other chronic diseases. Scientists carefully evaluated all the reflexes of volunteers, the strength of their muscles, the level of oxygen absorption during exercise and the peak physiological parameters.
