Scientists at Cornell University claim that they managed to find an easy and cheap way to lose weight. According to them, in order to part with extra pounds, you just need to reduce the amount of lunch.

Head of the study, Professor David Levitsky and his student Carly Pakanowski studied the diet of 17 volunteers for five weeks. In the first week, participants ate everything they wanted. In the next two weeks, half the group chose one of the six dishes with calorie content for lunch, and the rest of the meals were allowed to eat whatever they wanted and in any quantities. In the past two weeks, the second group of volunteers has followed similar restrictions.

As a result, for 10 days of modest lunches, when participants consumed 250 calories per day less than usual, they lost an average of half a kilogram.

"If you adhere to the proposed diet for a year, you can lose more than 11 kilograms," - said Levitsky. He notes that after a light lunch the subjects did not feel more hungry because of the reduced portions.

Moreover, they did not have the need to compensate for malnutrition in other meals or on other days.

The study shows that food substitutes that contain many proteins and fiber lead to weight loss not because it suppresses appetite, but because of the decrease in the amount of calories consumed. "In order to stop the development of obesity, we must learn to consume fewer calories. We offer a simple and inexpensive way to lose weight, "- said Levitsky.
