It became known why saunas are really good for human health. The first in the history of scientific research has confirmed that they are able to treat and prevent diseases.

Until very recently, all statements about the benefits of health saunas were based only on personal observations of fans of hot air, which were not supported by serious scientific research. And now such studies have been carried out. They showed that regular visits to the sauna are very useful for human health, because this type of bath prevents the risk of developing common acute and chronic diseases, and also reduces the severity of their symptoms. Sauna is a kind of passive hot air therapy, which originated in Finland and is now very popular in the Nordic countries. Traditionally, the sauna is used for pleasure and relaxation. People spend short periods of time (from 5 to 20 minutes) at a temperature of 80 to 100 degrees, to be subsequently cooled in the pool or under the shower.

There are other varieties of such procedures like Russian bath, Turkish hamam and infrared sauna, but it is the Finnish sauna that has been most thoroughly studied by mankind. In 2015, scientists from the University of Eastern Finland proved that regular visits to the sauna significantly reduced mortality from heart disease or stroke. The most recent study focused on the health of 1,621 men, followed for 22 years. Regular sauna intake from 4 to 7 times a week reduced the risk of developing high blood pressure by almost 50%.

The scientists themselves are not exactly sure how the sauna reduces the risk of heart disease.

But its ability to reduce pressure clearly reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Reception of the sauna increases the rhythm of the heartbeat and dilates the blood vessels of the skin. This increases blood flow, which improves the functioning of blood vessels and thereby protects the entire cardiovascular system. Scientists have proved that the combination of physical exertion and sauna significantly reduces the risk of death from any disease.
