Experts believe that the resistance of tuberculosis to many drugs is a more serious problem than previously thought.

A study published by the World Health Organization, covering about 79 countries around the world, also speaks in favor of the need to reconsider their attitude towards tuberculosis.

The most persistent are the pathogens in China and the CIS.

About a third of the world's population is sick with tuberculosis, and each year they are 8.9 million more.

Antimicrobial drugs have shown their high effectiveness in the treatment of tuberculosis, but from improper application can cause an increase in the resistance of the mycobacterium and the difficulty in further therapy of this disease.

The biggest problem in the treatment of tuberculosis is that it is rare when the patient completely completes the entire course of treatment.

Multi-resistant strains are considered that are insensitive to at least two powerful anti-tuberculosis drugs: rifampicin and isoniazid.

WHO reports on the 1994 study of resistant tuberculosis revealed more than 424,000 cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis. More than half of them were in Russia, India and China.

It is believed that multi-resistant strains of mycobacteria cause about 1% of all new cases, but in countries such as Lithuania and Kazakhstan, this figure can vary to 6.5%.

The global medical community states that it is necessary to unite efforts to combat the spread of resistant forms of tuberculosis, because strains that are insensitive to therapy make tuberculosis a lightning-fast fatal disease, especially in people with HIV.
