Net Microbiologists from the company BioCote, which produces antibacterial coatings, took swabs from ATM keypads in shopping malls of various British cities and from the seats of nearby public toilets. As researcher Richard Hastings explained, BioCote decided to conduct a comparative microbiological study of ATMs and toilets after receiving the results of a survey of three thousand Britons about what they think public places represent the maximum health risk.

In the first place among the results of the survey were public toilets, followed by telephone booths and bus stops. The keyboards of ATMs and terminals occupied only the tenth place.
