Researchers from the UK came to the conclusion that ATMs are contaminated with bacteria as well as public toilets, as reported by the Internet publication for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. Net Microbiologists from the company BioCote, which produces antibacterial coatings, took swabs from ATM keypads in shopping malls of various British cities and from the seats of nearby public toilets. These smears were sown on a nutrient medium, after which the grown up colonies of bacteria were subjected to microbiological examination.

It turned out that the ATM keyboards are contaminated with microbes in the same degree as the toilet seats. The qualitative composition of the contamination also turned out to be similar. Among the detected bacteria were representatives of the genera Pseudomonas and Bacillus, capable of causing various diseases in humans.

As researcher Richard Hastings explained, BioCote decided to conduct a comparative microbiological study of ATMs and toilets after receiving the results of a survey of three thousand Britons about what they think public places represent the maximum health risk.

In the first place among the results of the survey were public toilets, followed by telephone booths and bus stops. The keyboards of ATMs and terminals occupied only the tenth place.

As the microbiological study has shown, this view is erroneous, and people should pay more attention to personal hygiene after using the ATM.

Previously, American scientists found that the elevator buttons are about 35 times more bacteria than on the toilet seat of the average public toilet. And their British colleagues found that the surface of mobile phones is contaminated with microbes 18 times stronger than the handles of toilet bowls.
