Outbreak of measles in Europe: fresh data

In Europe, the outbreak of measles continues, which began last year in Romania. The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) issued a report with unpleasant data.

Romania continues to lead the incidence rate. Since January 1, 2016, 4881 people have been ill there. Died already 23: the last confirmed death from measles occurred on April 25.

In Italy, statistics are no worse. The European agency confirmed 1739 cases of measles there, but this is from January to April 21, 2017. Mostly children and adolescents are sick, 88% of the diseased have never been vaccinated. 159 cases - medical workers. Almost forty percent had to be hospitalized, 33% had at least one complication.

In the list also Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, France - in general, all the countries of the European Union. In some cases, one can trace the path of the virus to Romania, where the epidemic began. Almost all the diseased have not been vaccinated.

In Russia, according to the association of infectious disease pediatricians, the incidence of measles in the first quarter of 2017 increased 2.9 times in comparison with the same period of the previous year. 43 cases of the disease were registered, 19 of them in children under the age of 18.

Cases of measles have been registered in the Republic of Dagestan (18), the Moscow Region (6), the city of Moscow (3), Rostov (3), the Republic of North Ossetia and the Sverdlovsk Region (2 cases), the republics of Ingushetia, Bashkortostan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechen Republics , The Stavropol Territory, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District, the Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan and Chelyabinsk Regions (1 case each).
