NASA has published a photo that shows the sultry astronomical landscape above the deserted Atacama in Chile. In the image, created at the end of 2025, the sculpture “Empty Shot to the Sky” serves as a symbolic place between the earthly light and the boundless cosmos, depicting the majesty of the Chumatsky Shlyakh, the zodiacal light and other heavenly ones.
Take the Chumatsky Way over Atacama.
On the smoldering dry beauty of the deserted Atacama, overlooked by its supremely clear skies, a true cosmic symphony flares up.. The central place in the photograph is occupied by the bright dark of our Chumatsky Way, which may rise vertically into the sky. Its dark middle, where a lot of saw and gas is concentrated, creates a dramatic contrast with the billions of stars that form the basis of our galaxy.
Cosmic diva in earthly elegance.

The photograph masterfully documents not only the galactic scale, but also the details that add depth and explain astronomical phenomena. Evil, near the zodiac light, the sparkle of Spica is visible. The greenish and dark atmosphere (airglow) of ice vibrates prominently above the horizon, adding a special charm to the photographs. And at the very top, the right-hand man of the Roztashovs is Maliy Magellanovy Khmar, the satellite galaxy of the Chumatsky Way. In the foreground, besides the sculpture, one can discern the outlines of the Andean mountains, the Licancabur volcano and the fiery town of San Pedro de Atacama, which reinforces the connection between the cosmic and the earthly.
