Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is one of Ukraine's largest regions, lying on both banks of the Dnipro; its centre is the city of Dnipro. It was created in 1932. It is the industrial heart of the country, with the iron ore of Kryvbas, steelworks in Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske and Nikopol, and rocket building. Since 2022 its towns have been regularly hit by Russian strikes.
