The structure of the English Premier League has changed until the recommendation for referees for the 2026/27 season.

As reported by the BBC, the judges will re-evaluate episodes with hair pulling, and also give more respect to the fight in the penalty area and the imminently prolonged time.

One of the most discussed innovations in the camp is a change in the approach to punishment for grabbing your opponent’s hair. Last season, three players were drawing cards of red after being handed VAR, which screamed super.. Now the very fact of contact with the hair does not mean automatic treatment.

The referees will be responsible for assessing the player’s intentions and the level of power. The red card is shown less in cases of obvious insignificance and supernatural cruelty. In this manner, incidents that previously ended in violence can now be punished even further.

Another problem, due to the loss of respect in the Premier League, was the overwhelming struggle under the hour of standard provisions. The referees were advised to react more harshly to hoarding, blocking and suppression of superniks at the penalty area, especially since such actions immediately interfere with the development of the attack.

Around the block of changes there are so-called “tactful time-outs” of goalkeepers. We are talking about the situation when the goalkeeper sits down on the lawn, the medical staff calls, and the team at this time denies the opportunity to conduct a mini-naval outside the technical area. According to the results of the training of participants in the football process, 85% of respondents consider this practice a problem.

Also in the new season there will be a new rule to ensure that the goalkeepers are delayed. If the goalkeeper needs to put the ball in before the goal, the referee will give a five-second delay. In case of damage, the supernik denies the right to defeat the blow.

However, the Premier League does not yet plan to expand the use of VAR to verify the recognition of corner kicks, despite the fact that this practice is already used in the world championship.
