Marseille can lose their right to participate in European Cups for the 2026/27 season through possible violation of financial fair play standards.
According to L'Equipe, financial expenses of the French club over the last three seasons amounted to 157 million euros. At the same time, in 2022, Marseille agreed to agree with UEFA, in order to ensure financial stability and not to exceed the surplus of 60 million euros during the three-year cycle.
Through the change of the established limit, the UEFA disciplinary bodies plan to review the right of the club of this year. One of the possible punishments may be for third-party teams participating in European tournaments.
Apparently, at the end of the season in Liza 1 Marseille scored 59 points and finished in fifth position, which secured the team a ticket to the European League. However, the participation in the tournament now depends not only on sporting results, but also on the decision of UEFA for the financial status of the club.
